The Calyx project, has received a further welcome boost with its first International Garden sponsor. One of the zones to be created at the Calyx is for International gardens and Perth’s twin city Aschaffenburg have pledged £85,000 for the creation of the ‘Aschaffenburg – the Green twin city at the main’. The Aschaffenburg funding represents 25% matched funding for the project and leverages a total £340,000 for the project funding with lottery funds included, if the project’s final application to the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme is successful this autumn. Peter Fairlie, Chief Executive of the Calyx project said, “Its really excellent to have support at this stage from one of Perth’s twins, the City of Aschaffenburg. We will look forward to seeing the design of Aschaffenburg’s garden in the Calyx International Zone and to having it built when the Calyx progresses construction. Mr Fairlie continued, “The Calyx stretches well beyond the local community of Perth and Scotland, and with its creation it will bring international quality and a truly world class attraction for Perth. Further international gardens will be developed with other countries in the Calyx International Zone, which will bring not only inward investment sponsorship for the Calyx project but additional visitors and economic benefit to Scotland and to Perth. If lottery funding is secured in the autumn, with the matched funding currently being pledged ahead of the final application to the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme, the project will proceed with construction throughout 2008 and 2009, with opening scheduled for 2010.
